Return to Renton Cruise-In Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show, Sunday, July 12th

Cruise back in time and check out classic vehicles at the 19th Annual Return to Renton Benefi t Car Show. Show begins at 10:00am and awards presented at 3:00pm. Springbrook Creek Wetland and Habitat Mitigation Bank Project Completed

City of Renton Mayor Denis Law, local officials and Talbot Hill Elementary fourth graders celebrated Springbrook Creek Wetland and Habitat Mitigation Bank opening Friday morning. Located south of I-405 in Renton, Springbrook is the largest wetland mitigation site in the central Puget Sound area. See photos. Read more. 

Maplewood Golf Course Recognized for Environmental Excellence

Maplewood Golf Course has achieved designation as a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses, an Audubon International program. Steve Meyers, Course Superintendent, has led the effort to obtain sanctuary status on this course and is being recognized for Environmental Stewardship by Audubon International. Maplewood Golf Course is the 12th course in Washington and the 703rd in the world to receive the honor.  Read more.  

Health reform will help young people avoid brushes with the law

Youth crime and access to health care and mental-health treatment are intertwined, argue the police chiefs of Renton, Auburn and Burien. They make a case for reform that will help young people stay out of trouble. Read the Seattle Times article.

Renton Emergency Preparedness Academy (REPA)

There is a new exciting resource to help you prepare. The new Renton Emergency Preparedness Academy (REPA) is a partnership between the City of Renton, the American Red Cross, and Renton Technical College. Most classes are free. Watch for the upcoming issues of the Renton Technical College catalog, or download the REPA course information. Register for the REPA courses through Renton Technical College.  Read more. 

Swine Flu Outbreak –City, Red Cross Urge Preparedness

The city continues to monitor the recent outbreak of swine flu and plan for response and continuity of operations if the situation reaches pandemic status. This is also a good time for families, businesses and organizations to review and update their preparedness plans. Renton Volunteer Receives Governor’s Service Award

Lee Cummings from Renton was one of a select number of volunteers recognized by Governor Gregoire for her outstanding contributions as a volunteer.  She has provided over 400 hours of service for Renton’s emergency management programs.  Read More.

Uwajimaya Market to Open in Renton

Uwajimaya, Inc. is pleased to announce its 4th store to be opened in City of Renton. The store will anchor Renton Shopping Center located at, 501 South Grady Way, in Renton Washington.  The store is currently scheduled to open in late June. Read More.

Green River Valley Residents Urged to Buy Flood Insurance

In light of the reduced storage capacity at the Howard Hanson dam and the increased risk of flooding to Green River Valley communities, the  Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Washington Emergency Management Division (WEMD) are urging residents and businesses of the Green River Valley area, to buy flood insurance. Cedar River Access Trail

Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is developing an access trail to the Cedar River upstream of I-405, across from Renton’s Cedar River Park. The trail will function as a public access to the Cedar River for recreational use and in the fall to load adult sockeye salmon into hauling trucks for the Cedar River Sockeye Hatchery. Read More 

Comcast’s Expanded Basic Digital Migration Project

Comcast will be switching channels higher than 29 to digital format to free up the spectrum for additional high definition channels and faster Internet service. For Renton, this will occur later this year. Read the Seattle PI article and the KIRO newscast.

Emergency assistance available for PSE low-income customers

Puget Sound Energy is reminding customers having trouble paying their heating bills that almost $29 million in monetary assistance is available this year from two low-income programs administered by community service agencies that recently received increased funding from the PSE and the federal government.  Contact King County Multi-Service Center (for South King County) at 1-800-348-7144.  For more information.

Limited Parking at Renton City Hall

In order to provide adequate short term parking for visitors to Renton City Hall, and to minimize traffic congestion, parking on upper level (P3) , will be limited to 2 hours.  Additional parking will be available at Sam's Club, on the east side of their main parking lot.  Please note that overflow parking is not allowed near their loading dock.  SEE MAP (pdf).

Free Blood Pressure Checks for the Public

Receive blood pressure checks from Fire and Emergency Services personnel at City Hall on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month at 9 a.m. For blood pressure checks other days of the week, visit your local fire station.
