RENTON, WA-The Renton City Council appointed Rich Zwicker to fill the vacancy in Council created by the resignation of Dan Clawson.
“I’m very honored to be selected, and I look forward to the opportunity to serve the Renton Community," said Zwicker. "Renton is abound with opportunities and being able to serve our community in this capacity is especially rewarding. I am ready to work hard and am confident that my successful relationships and partnerships will contribute to our future success.”
Zwicker will be sworn into office in a ceremony in the Council Chambers on Monday, February 4, 2008.
Following the process laid out by city policy, the Council selected Zwicker from candidates who submitted their applications to the city clerk’s office. All the candidates were interviewed by the Council Committee of the Whole on January 22, 2008.
“We had 11 great candidates and all of them would have brought unique skills to the position. Mr. Zwicker was selected by the majority of the council. He is smart, hard-working and understands his constituents. He brings a wealth of expertise and experience and we’re very pleased to have him join us,” said Council President Marcie Palmer.
Zwicker lives with his wife, Martha, in North Renton. Active in his neighborhood, he brings his commitment to Renton and to his seat on the council. He enjoys being involved and being a part of the community. A paralegal with the state Attorney General's Office, Zwicker also serves as a Trustee for the Renton Technical College and as a member of the Renton Technical College Foundation and Alumni Association. Rich chairs the Utilities Committee and is a member of the Planning and Development and Transportation/Aviation Committees. It is his priority to make sure that Renton continues to be a regional leader as well as a great place to live, learn, work and play.
Councilmember Zwicker will fill the vacancy for the remainder of Clawson's term, which expires December 31, 2009. He will serve as the chair of the Utilities Committee and a member of the Planning & Development Committee and the Transportation/Aviation Committee. He must stand for election in 2009 to continue service to the City Council.
