City’s Storm System Inventory Map Book Wins Prestigious International Award

RENTON:  The City of Renton has been recognized for excellence in map design for its Storm System Inventory book by the Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI). The city recently won second place at the ESRI International Users Conference for “Best Cartographic Design: Map Series or Atlas.” The prestigious award is among the highest forms of recognition in the area of Geographic Information Services (GIS) mapping world-wide, and recognizes Renton’s high standards of quality and expertise in GIS map design.

“I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the Utility Systems staff on receiving this award,” said Gregg Zimmerman, Public Works Administrator. “We take pride in providing the best possible mapping services to the citizens of Renton, and this award stands as a testament of the quality of work we are doing on behalf of our community.”

ESRI is the world’s largest GIS software development and services company that provides GIS software and geodatabase management applications to an estimated 70 percent of current GIS users worldwide. The ESRI Conference is the largest of all GIS events, with participation by over 100 countries from around the world.
