One-year lease with city ensures continuity of events and catering services at Pavilion building

Renton, Wash.—The City of Renton has signed an agreement with Rain City Catering to operate the Pavilion building as an events center and provide catering services. Formerly, the Pavilion building was used as an events center and was leased by the city to the Spirit of Washington Inc. Part of the revenue from these operations was provided to the city. At the end of 2010, the Spirit of Washington Inc. notified the city that they could no longer honor the terms of the lease.

Rain City Catering was previously the subcontractor to the Spirit of Washington Inc. for the catering part of the business. The marketing staff recently transferred from the Spirit of Washington Inc. to Rain City Catering. They are familiar with all aspects of event booking and catering at the Pavilion building and are able to continue operating the building as an events center. The new lease assignment ensures all current bookings, annual events and other pre-booked events will continue as planned and customers will not experience sudden cancellations or changes. Keeping the current operations intact also preserves the revenue stream to the city and provides the city the time needed to evaluate various options for the long-term, including uses for the Pavilion building and alternative business strategies for city operations of public facilities, as well as time to issue the appropriate request for proposals.
