RENTON, WA - Terri Briere, who currently serves as the President of Renton City Council, has been appointed to a three-year term to the Citizens Committee on Pipeline Safety by Governor Chris Gregoire. Briere has served on Renton City Council since 2000, is a member of the King County Growth Management Planning Council, Suburban Cities Caucus and Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Board, and is an owner/president of Briere & Associates, Inc., a general contractor serving the Puget Sound Region.

The 13-member Washington State Citizens Committee on Pipeline Safety was established by the legislature in 2000, to advise state, federal and local agencies on the construction, operation, maintenance and routing of hazardous liquid and natural gas pipelines in Washington. The committee consists of nine voting members representing the public, including local government, and elected officials. Four non-voting members represent owners and operators of hazardous liquid and gas pipelines. The members serve three-year staggered terms. The committee is staffed by the Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission, Pipeline Safety Program.

“It is an honor to serve on this committee,” said Councilmember Terri Briere. “In our state pipeline safety is of critical importance to ensure that our regulations achieve the highest level of safety while enabling our infrastructure to service vital needs of our economy and citizens.”
