RENTON - The City of Renton is seeking candidates to participate in the public process and serve on a steering committee to develop ideas for the future use of the Liberty Park library building. The members will serve on the committee for approximately six months and make their recommendations to City Council and the Mayor. The opportunity to serve on the steering committee is open to all interested citizens.

In June 2011, the City Council reaffirmed the city's intent to maintain the existing library building under public ownership and that it be open to the public. The Council also reiterated that any future use of the building should enhance its enjoyment as a civic amenity and its unique location over the Cedar River. The Mayor has appointed Community Services Department Administrator Terry Higashiyama to oversee an exciting public process to engage all interested citizens to share their opinions and suggestions and contribute to the plans for a city-defining landmark.

To participate in the steering committee, download an application from the Liberty Park Library Building Steering Committee webpage at rentonwa.gov or call 425-430-6600 to have an application mailed.  Completed applications should be mailed to City of Renton, Community Services Department, 1055 South Grady Way, Renton, WA 98057, by July 29, 2011. For more information, contact Diane Wagner at 425-430-6600 or dwagner@rentonwa.gov  or visit rentonwa.gov.
