Flags and Banners Welcome Seahawks Fans for third annual Bing Training Camp

RENTON – The city is going all out to welcome the third annual Bing Training Camp to Renton. Mayor Denis Law will present a proclamation on Monday, August 1, declaring August 5, 11 and 19 to be Seahawks Spirit Days, and the “12” flag is flying high above Renton City Hall and several other public facilities. Over 20,000 fans are expected to attend camp that begins on July 30 in Renton.

Throughout the city “Renton Welcomes Seahawks Fans” banners will proudly tout their fan spirit, and local businesses, organizations and fans will display Training Camp 2011 cheer cards. Fans can download cheer cards from the city’s website at rentonwa.gov. Everyone is being asked to wear blue and green colors and put on their “12” buttons on August 5, 11 and 19, to show their support. Businesses are also encouraged to use their own reader boards to celebrate Seahawks Training Camp 2011 in Renton.

“We couldn’t be more excited that ’football is back‘ and Training Camp is opening in Renton. I encourage fans to spread the Seahawks Spirit throughout the city,” said Renton Mayor Denis Law. “While you are here at training camp, please enjoy all that Renton has to offer–great shopping, wonderful restaurants, parks, and recreation activities.”

The third annual training camp at the spectacular Virginia Mason Athletic Center (VMAC), the Seattle Seahawks’ headquarters and training facility in Renton, starts on July 30 and includes fifteen practices through August 15. The Landing in Renton will serve as the parking and transportation center. Fans interested in attending Bing Training Camp must register through the team’s web site, seahawks.com. Registration will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and fans 15 years or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Only fans that register through seahawks.com will be allowed to attend practice.

The Renton Community Marketing Campaign is taking advantage of the large volume of visitors coming to Renton by promoting opportunities to shop, dine, stay and play in Renton. The Seahawks’ website, www.seahawks.com, features information about opportunities for visitors coming to Renton. Every visitor to training camp will receive a “Shop Renton, Buy Ahead of the Curve” discount card called the “CurveCard,” which can be used at over 220 participating businesses for special offers and discounts.

"The Seahawks training camp provides a great spark for our local economy since fans and visitors patronize local restaurants, shops and hotels,” said Bill Taylor, President & CEO, Renton Chamber of Commerce.

“We’re excited to host Seahawks fans for the third year in a row at VMAC,” said Seahawks Vice President of Community Relations Mike Flood. “This is a unique opportunity for fans to see the players and coaches up-close, enjoy the setting on the shore of Lake Washington, and soak in the great hospitality that Renton has to offer.”
