Renton’s Markets Keeping it Fresh, Fun and Remarkable

Farmers MarketRENTON, WA — On Monday, August 8, Mayor Denis Law will present a  proclamation  declaring the week of August 7-14, 2011 to be “Farmers Market Week” in acknowledgment of the generous participation of local farmers and vendors to the community.

Both the Renton Farmers Market at the Piazza and the Farmers Market at Valley Medical Center are currently in full swing, operating each week and providing visitors with a friendly market experience that is fun for the whole family. Shoppers will discover an amazing selection of beautiful flowers, locally grown fresh and organic fruits and vegetables, and other wholesome natural food products.

“We are very proud of both markets in Renton and appreciate everyone who supports them,” said Mayor Denis Law. “Our farmers markets are beneficial to everyone, providing opportunities for local vendors as well as making a positive contribution to Renton’s economic vitality.”

With more people turning to farmers markets for fresh healthy foods, it only seemed natural to Valley Medical Center to highlight wellness information in this market setting. This is just what visitors to the Farmers Market at Valley Medical Center, located in the parking lot adjacent to the Professional Center at 4011 Talbot Road South every Sunday from noon to 4:00 p.m., will find. In the VMC Wellness Booth, hospital representatives spotlight a different health-related topic each week and provide resources. On August 7, VMC’s Fitness Center & Cardiac Rehab will be doing blood pressure checks and giving away Therabands (exercise bands) with a free demonstration.

Celebrating its tenth season, the Renton Farmers Market at the Piazza is open on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. and is located in a beautiful urban park in the heart of downtown, adjacent to the Renton Transit Center.
