Commuting Options


Regular, benefits-eligible full-time and part-time City of Renton employees may receive a complementary employer-paid ORCA card.  The City of Renton provides this to regular employees to achieve goals set forth in the State of Washington Commute Trip Reduction (CTR) Law.  The CTR Law is aimed at reducing drive alone commuting in order to reduce traffic congestion, reduce fossil fuel consumption, and improve air quality. Click on the link to learn more about the ORCA card.

Transportation Benefits include:

  • Unlimited rides on the following transit systems: Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro Transit, Kitsap Transit, Pierce Transit, and Sound Transit.
  • 100% monthly VanPool or VanShare subsidy.
  • Home Free Guarantee - If an emergency arises on a day an employee has bused, walked, biked, carpooled, vanpooled, or ridden the train to work, a taxi ride home will be provided to them at no charge to a maximum of eight times per year.
  • Carpoolers may register to receive a special parking pass for the “P” parking level.  Carpoolers may also receive commuter vouchers to reward them for their carpooling habits (while supplies last).Carpool Subsidy & Carpool Parking Permit.
  • Bicycle commuters and those who walk to work are welcome to use the locker and shower facilities at many city work sites.  In addition, there are bicycle racks at many city buildings.  Bicyclists and those who walk to work may also receive commuter vouchers (while supplies last) to reward them for their “green” commute.


Onsite covered garage parking is available for employees working in City Hall.
