Park System

Renton’s extensive park system is the result of involving the public in long-term visioning and planning. The city’s Parks, Recreation and Natural Areas Plan ensures the city’s park needs meet current demand and builds capacity for future generations. The Trails and Bicycle Master Plan reflects the desire to create an interconnected trail and non-motorized transportation network to facilitate local and regional connections.

The Parks Planning and Natural Resources team responds to locally-based needs, values and conditions, while protecting the integrity and quality of the surrounding natural systems, to transform ideas into parks, trails, open space and facilities through the following activities:

  • Planning, designing and constructing parks and trails projects

  • Reviewing proposed city and private development plans to evaluate potential impacts on the park and forestry system

  • Applying for and administering grants for capital improvements

  • Updating comprehensive parks, trails and forestry planning documents

  • Acquiring property to meet future parks and trails needs
