Tree CityThe City of Renton’s Urban Forestry Program has received an annual award from the National Arbor Day Foundation since the program’s initial beginnings in 2007.

The Tree City USA program honors communities across the nation for meeting four standards each year. The award is presented to communities who submit certification and recertification applications each year to qualify for work performed the previous year. Renton’s awards are publicized each year through the media, at city council meetings, and during the program's main event, The Arbor Day/Earth Day Celebration, held on the last Saturday in April.

The city will be applying for its 11th Tree City USA Award for work performed in 2018. On Saturday, April 29, 2017, over 100 eager volunteers pitched in the celebrate Arbor Day/Earth Day at Heritage Park and planted more than 25 trees and hundreds of perennial flowers and shrubs.

In addition to the Tree City USA Award, the city qualified for its seventh Growth Award, which is given to communities that demonstrate efforts that go beyond the standards for Tree City USA.
