Project Description

The Overlay Program is an annual program for rating, repairing, and resurfacing existing roadways. Installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant curb ramps has been incorporated into the annual Street Overlay and Arterial Rehabilitation programs according to new federal requirements.

This program coordinates with the Arterial Rehabilitation Program (TIP#2). This program is managed between the by the Transportation Design Section, and the Maintenance Services Division of the Public Works Department.

Overview

Asphalt overlaying and slurry sealing streets provides for improved driving surface and are highly cost effective ways to avoid expensive repairs or reconstruction. The city Council desires pavement ratings within the City of Renton to have an Overall Combined Index (OCI) of 80 or better. Currently, the rating is 70.

2022 Overlay Program

The 2022 Overlay Program has two active Projects: the 2022 Curb Ramps for Overlay, and the 2022 Overlay.

2022 Curb Ramps for Overlay:
  • Project will upgrade sidewalk curb ramps for compliance with PROWAG Standards.

  • Bid Opening was held on Aril 1, 2022. Apcon Tech, Inc. was the low bidder at $484,228.00.

  • Construction to start June 29, 2022. Construction anticipated to be completed by September 8, 2022.

2022 Curb Ramps for Overlay:

  • Neighborhood street preservation, and street paving.

  • Bid Opening was held on July 7, 2022. CPM Development Corporation DBA ICON Materials was the low bidder at $853,488.00.

  • Construction Contract is scheduled to be awarded on the regular Council Meeting 8, 2022.

Budget

This program funds overlays on neighborhood streets and collector streets. The Arterial Rehabilitation Program funds major and minor arterials.

Title VI

The City of Renton hereby gives public notice that it is the City’s policy to assure full compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, and related statutes and regulations in all programs and activities. Title VI requires that no person shall, on the grounds of race, color, sex, or national origin be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be otherwise subjected to discrimination under any Federal Aid Highway program or other activity for which the City of Renton receives federal financial assistance.

Any person who believes they have been aggrieved by an unlawful discriminatory practice under Title VI has a right to file a formal complaint with the City of Renton. Any such complaint must be in writing and filed with the City of Renton, Human Resources Dept. within one hundred eighty (180) days of the alleged discriminatory occurrence.
