School Resource Officer

The City of Renton and the Renton School District have a partnership to promote and support the Renton Police Department School Resource Officer (SRO) Program.  Renton School District has over 20 schools with nearly 14,000 students, ranging from Kindergarten through 12th grade.

The Renton Police SRO program typically has three full-time police officers, each assigned to:  Hazen, Lindbergh, and Renton High School.  And although these officers are assigned to the high schools, they visit, teach, and work with other schools within the District, as well.

SROs are responsible for the safety and security of Renton schools and the surrounding communities, through actions of law enforcement, informal counseling, and law-related education.  SROs create positive relationships with students, teachers, staff, parents/guardians, community program leaders, community members, and other law enforcement agencies.

These positive relationships can help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the youth of the community. School Resource Officers are role models, a face for the police department, and an example of community-based policing at the highest level.
