Arbor Day and Earth Day 2019

Will be celebrated on Saturday, April 27, by planting trees along Lake Youngs Way SE.

The annual Arbor Day/Earth Day celebration showcases the City of Renton's commitment to the environment and community.

Many thanks, to our volunteers (registration is full) and our event sponsors, Integrity Network, and Davy Resource Group.

Please register for another volunteer opportunity.

Tree City USA

Since 2008, Renton has been recognized as a Tree City USA. Holding an Arbor Day observance is one of the four standards the city must meet according to the Arbor Day Foundation. The others:

  • Establishment of a tree board or department
  • A tree care ordinance
  • A community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita

The planting and care of trees has proven to be one of the most effective ways to protect the environment. Additional trees prevent soil erosion, produce oxygen, and improve fish and wildlife habitats.

The city has over 136,000 trees in natural areas, parks, along streets, and other city properties. Since the first Arbor Day/Earth Day in 2005, more than 600 trees and thousands of shrubs have been planted with the assistance of almost 2,000 volunteers.
