How Do I Start

Do you have an idea for a project in Renton? The first step in moving forward with your project is scheduling a pre-application meeting with City staff. The City of Renton offers pre-application meetings at no cost in order to help residents, businesses, and developers determine the feasibility of a project prior to submitting a formal Land Use Application. A pre-application meeting provides you with detailed information on zoning requirements, permitting processes, fees and more for your proposed project.

Pre-Application meetings can be held for various types of projects, including:

Land Division (Short Plat or Preliminary Plat)

New Multifamily Residential, Commercial, or Industrial Development

Addition to Existing Commercial or Industrial Buildings

Changing the Use of a Building or Property

Temporary Use Permit (Tier 2)

Accessory Dwelling Unit

Pre-Application Meetings are held on Thursdays and are approximately 1 hour.

Representatives from Planning, Development Engineering, and the Renton Fire Authority will review their comments on your project. Pre-application meetings are informal and applicants may ask questions at any time. While not required, we encourage you to invite anyone else to the meeting that may be working on the project (engineer, architect, etc). You will be provided a written copy of all comments provided.
