City is offering virtual programming alternatives to traditional celebrations

RENTON, WA - The City of Renton will modify operations at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday in to comply with Phase 2 of “Safe Start Washington.”

The park will operate under revised hours from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 4. The early closure will allow the park to be cleared before sunset.

The park area north of the boat launch will be open, including:

  • Ivar’s and Kidd Valley restaurants for takeout and curbside pickup

  • A limited amount of outdoor seating

  • Water walk

  • Nature walk

  • Restrooms

  • Parking lots

The park area south of the boat launch will be closed, including:

  • Parking lot

  • Restrooms

  • Picnic shelters

  • Barbeques

  • Playground

  • Volleyball and tennis courts

  • Beach

  • Lawn area

The boat launch and trailer parking lot will be open 24 hours for boat traffic only. The city is placing porta potties near the launch.

Most park amenities have been closed since March to adhere to the Governor’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” distancing guidelines. Visitors are also reminded that dogs, except for service animals, and bicycles are not permitted in Coulon Park.

Other City Parks and Trails

Kennydale Beach Park will also close at 6 p.m. on July 4, but the city’s other parks will follow their regular schedules of operation that day with all current Phase 2 restrictions in place. Trails will also be open.

Virtual Programming

The community services department is also offering several virtual programming options including an upcoming July 4th activity, a summer fun run/walk, Tuesday Trivia Nights and “Campin’ Out.”
