Overnight crews worked in the neighborhoods, sanding/salting compact snow and ice. The primary and secondary roads are in excellent condition.
Our day crews will spend New Year's Day on patrol, sanding, or salting as needed.

Most mains and secondaries are in very good condition with minimal snowpack limited to turn pockets and medians.
Our crew worked overnight in the neighborhoods. However, the plow trucks cannot remove compact snow in some neighborhoods. Therefore, they will spread salt and sand to thaw and provide traction.
Today, we will spread sand and salt in Benson annex, Cascade, Rolling Hills, Tiffany Park, North and South Renton, and NE Renton neighborhoods. Tonight, there will be a second application.

Street Maintenance
Our street maintenance crews have made significant progress, clearing all main and secondary roads. That has allowed them to move into neighborhoods since early afternoon.
For the most part, roads are bare and wet. However, some neighborhoods have flat areas that still have compact snow and ice.
Unless new snow forces them back on our primary routes, the plows will continue to work their neighborhoods.

This new round of snow pulled the night crew from neighborhoods back to plow arterials and secondary roads last night around 10.
The day shift will likely be on these routes all day and into the night.
Once comfortable these roads are passable, they will return to the neighborhoods. At this time, that looks to be Friday.

Renton's Severe Weather Shelter is now open 24 hours
Located at the Highlands Neighborhood Center (800 Edmonds Avenue NE), the shelter will open Dec. 27, at 8 p.m. and remain open until 7 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022.
Shelter information is available by calling 2-1-1 (Crisis Connections)
The shelter's capacity is 22-25 people. It has separate sleeping spaces for single women, single men, couples, and homeless families with children living on the streets. Snacks, food, and warm beverages are provided.
REACH staff operates this is a mat on floor shelter. All must register at the door.
The shelter will follow COVID guidelines to help ensure the health and safety of clients and staff.

The snow is light currently, with most streets having compact snow.

Our plows continue to work on main arterials and secondary streets. Salt and deicer have been applied on the steeper hills to create bare and wet spots. Plows have not been able to branch off onto any neighborhood streets.

Overall city-wide conditions are slippery. So if you must drive, please be careful and treat our plows as you would emergency vehicles.
Renton Severe Weather Shelter opens Dec. 26
The City of Renton is activating the Severe Weather Shelter at the Highlands Community Center (800 Edmonds Avenue NE) beginning Sunday night, Dec. 26, through Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022.

All are welcome. The severe weather shelter is available for single women and men, couples, and homeless families with children who are living on the streets or in vehicles.
Separate sleeping spaces have been prepared for men, women, and for families with children.
The shelter is an emergency, mat on floor shelter operated by REACH staff. All must register at the door. As with all shelters, rules for health and safety of clients and staff will apply and COVID guidelines will be followed.
Facility Updates
Renton Community Center and Renton Senior Activity Center will be closed on Monday, Dec. 27.
The two facilities will reopen once it is safe for our staff and patrons to return.
Accounts will receive credits for canceled activities, which will be available for your next reservation/activity.
