Citizenship and Voting

Becoming a US Citizen

Contact the United States Citizen and Immigration Service to become a citizen of the United States. This federal agency provides information and resources to people who have just become permanent residents in the United States, and when they are ready and eligible to begin the formal naturalization process.

Voting

To help slow the spread of CoVID-19 in our community, King County Elections is providing virtual service only at this time.

Now through October 26, voters can register to vote or update their registration online.

For those needing assistance during the voting period (October 15-November 3), King County Elections will have Vote Centers open for those who need assistance or missed deadlines but ask that those who are able to utilize online tools do so. Those who do come a Vote Center in person will be required to wear a face covering over their nose and mouth.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please email [email protected] or call 206-296-VOTE (8683).

You can register to vote online or by mail until 8 days before an election or in-person through Election day. Registrations done by mail need to be received, not postmarked, by the 8 day deadline.

Three ways to register:

1. You can register online, 24/7, at the Washington Secretary of State's website.

To register online, you will need:

  • A current Washington State driver license, or

  • A current Washington State ID card

  • If you do not have either of these, you can still register by mail or in-person.

2. Download and print a voter registration form and mail it to King County Elections. Forms are available in many languages.

3. You can register to vote in-person at the King County Elections Office in Renton or at a Vote Center.

You can also register to vote at one of the county's community events.
