Graphic: New Kennydale Playground Equipment

(Note: the park reopened on May 26)

Installation of new playground equipment at Kennydale Beach Park will start April 11. When the park reopens in late May, children ages 2 to 12 will enjoy exciting, modern, and age-appropriate slides, climbers, rope bridges, a storefront panel, steppers, balance beam, and sand diggers. In addition, a fabric shade will cover the 2 to 5-year-old play structure, and a stand-alone shade structure will increase sheltered space for sand play or gathering.

This playground replacement is the sixth overseen by our Parks Planning and Development Division since 2018. The others were at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park, Liberty Park, Thomas Teasdale Park, Cedar River Trail Park, and Tiffany Park. Additionally, a new playground was built at Sunset Neighborhood Park. Later this year, work will start on a seventh at Cascade Park. Funding for these replacement projects comes through the Capital Improvement Program. The life expectancy for a playground is typically 15 years.

New playground equipment is selected to create a unique play experience for children in two age groups: 2-5 years and 5-12 years. In addition, each playground strictly meets the latest Consumer Product Safety Council (CPSC) and American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) certifications for playground safety conformance.
