Age Friendly Senior 50+ Resource Expo  

Join us and over 35 vendor exhibit displays with a variety of presentations on subjects such as health, finance, transportation, housing and more on Friday, September 29 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center

Free transportation is available for Renton residents. Call Hyde Shuttle at 206-727-6262. Reservations for transportation should be made at least three days in advance.

Evaluating Retirement Living Options

Program: Join us for a discussion about the differences between various types of senior housing and care settings available.  We will review what each provides, including their pros and cons, and some of the most overlooked considerations when choosing your next home.  We’ll also discuss how to determine the best fit for your situation, as well as how to understand when it may be the right time to move.

 

Healthy Living through Group Fitness

 Moving to stay fit can be challenging as we age. We lose vitality, functionality and just have overall aches and pains. Oz’s Tin Man’s creaky knees was solved with a little oil.  By routine exercise, we can self-lubricate our joints, stretch muscles and tendons, and generate positive feel good hormones. Join us to find out how you can learn to breathe, stretch, regain strength, and maintain balance.  Using a combination of stretch bands, lightweight weights, and low-impact aerobics.  As an added benefit: socializing comradery.  Your speaker and instructor, Steve Schmidt, has provided fitness exercise routines at the Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center since 2016, and the YMCA and at assisted living facilities in Renton since 2001.

 

Medicare Open Enrollment Presentation

Get help paying for Medicare? The program will be presented by Don Berg, SHIBA Program Volunteer. SHIBA provides free, unbiased and confidential assistance with Medicare Health Choices.

 

Identifying and Avoiding Scams

: Scammers target older customers because of the size of their assets, their tendency to be more trusting, the likelihood of being stressed by family, medical and financial problems, their concern about having enough money and their embarrassment about admitting they’ve been duped. Seniors are also more likely to be suffering from declining cognitive skills, making them even more vulnerable to fraud and manipulation.

Chronic Pain and Falls Prevention

Program: Learn strategies to better manage your chronic pain and reduce risk of fall-related injuries. Join Dr. Kushang Patel as he shares his knowledge and expertise on the science of pain, aging, and injury. After Dr. Patel shares some helpful tips and tricks for reducing pain, preventing falls, and feeling better, he will be available to answer any questions you may have related to these topics. Dr. Patel is a Research Associate Professor in the Divisions of Pain Medicine and Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine at the University of Washington.
