Transportation Improvement Program

2023-2028 Transportation Improvement Program

Annually, the City of Renton updates a Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP), a planning document adopted by the Renton City Council.

State law requires the preparation and annual updating of a six-year comprehensive transportation program.  This six-year plan sets forth projects and programs of regional significance, including funds for any new, enhanced bicycle and/or pedestrian facilities as well as any other applicable changes that promote non-motorized transit.

The TIP is a multi-year planning tool that updates future plans for transportation projects and program within the City and is used to coordinate with other jurisdictions and agencies.   The projects and programs in the annual update support the mission and vision of the Renton Business Plan and reflect the involvement of the public and the City’s elected officials.

The program:

  • Reflects involvement by citizens and elected officials

  • Implements the City of Renton Mission Statement

  • Is used to coordinate transportation projects and programs with other jurisdictions and agencies

  • Is a multi-year planning tool for the development of the transportation facilities within the city

  • Is required for state and federal funding programs

  • Is a vital part of planning under the Growth Management Act (GMA)

  • Is mandated by state law

Copies of the current TIP can be purchased for cost of printing from the city clerk's office, 425-430-6510, or downloaded for free.
