CITY OF RENTON WASHINGTON

Renton is home to a vibrant arts scene where you will find a growing collection of city-owned art on display throughout the city.  

The majority of the City’s collection is permanently located and readily accessible to the public. You are invited to visit your art collection, and enjoy the varied artworks that belong to the people of Renton.

The South Renton neighborhood is adding curb appeal in unsuspecting spots and are asking artists to send in their proposals for fire hydrant art. Unlike other public art projects on street signs or utility boxes, hydrants come in different styles with curves and angles for an artist to consider.

Whether you are walking from your parking spot to a downtown restaurant, or shopping on S. Third Street, it’s difficult not to see the artful beauty portrayed on the walls of Renton.

Renton's downtown rooftop dragon landed on top of the east side of the building at the corner of S. 3rd Street & Wells Ave. S. (826 S. 3rd Street), across from Common Ground Coffee and Cupcakes, and next to the gravel lot.

Utility boxes, also known as traffic signal boxes, are the gray metal cabinets sitting at all signaled intersection.

While they are ubiquitous, there’s a good chance you haven’t noticed them. Necessary for controlling the electrical equipment that keeps traffic moving in Renton, the boxes can serve as canvasses for highlighting the work of local artists and contributing to the character of the neighborhood. 

There are currently 18 wrapped boxes around the City.

Renton Technical College in partnership with the Renton Municipal Arts Commission displays artwork from local artists inside their Culinaire Gallery at their campus in the Highlands and in the hallways of their downtown campus.
