Renton Animal Control is vital to caring for and supporting our community's missing animals. The challenge of high numbers of animals in shelters waiting for homes is a regional issue that demands our attention and action.
Join Renton Police Department's Animal Control as they partner with Eastside Veterinary Associates to host a special pet adoption event. Visit Eastside Veterinary Associates on Saturday, December 14, from 1 to 4 p.m.
All pets available for adoption are vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. Adoption fees will be 50% off ($50 for dogs and $25 for cats).
Renton Animal Control has 16 dogs awaiting adoption at the upcoming event. The number of animals changes daily, so the number of available pets may change before the event.
Already have a pet and live in Renton? Is your pet microchipped? One way to help Renton Animal Control ensure your lost pet is quickly and safely returned home is through microchipping.
Microchipping inserts a tiny chip into your pet. The chip can be scanned to access the owner's information and reunite residents with their lost dog or cat.
This program, in partnership with the Renton Community Foundation and Eastside Veterinary Associates, offers free microchipping services for pets. This service normally costs around $70 per animal. Renton residents can visit Eastside Veterinary Associates, 1700 NE 44th St., Monday through Friday.
Check-in is 11:30 a.m. No appointment is necessary. Proof of Renton residency via a driver's license or utility bill is required during service.

Santa is waiting! Drop letters off to Santa at the Renton Municipal Airport’s Santa mailbox
Renton Municipal Airport is back with the Santa mailbox for its fourth festive year! Join this holiday tradition by writing and sending a letter to Santa himself.
This year, the mailbox has moved to a more accessible location: right outside the Airport Administrative office at 243 W. Perimeter Road. This new location is accessible 24/7.
Letters must be received by December 25 as Santa will be taking the mailbox back to the north pole.
Water pipes that freeze, burst, and then leak can damage homes during the colder months
Cold weather can be unpredictable, so now is the best time to prepare. Take these precautions to avoid the mess, hassle, and cost of repairing leaky pipes and wasting water.
1. Insulate your water pipes
Insulating pipes in your home's crawl space, garage, or basement will protect them from freezing when temperatures dip low this winter. As a bonus, insulate your hot-water pipes to eliminate condensation and save on energy and water costs.
2. Insulate your outdoor spigot
Outdoor spigots (or faucets) are also susceptible to freezing. Every winter, disconnect your garden hose and insulate your spigot by wrapping rags around it and affixing a molded foam cover from your local hardware store.
3. Know where your water shut-off valve is
If you do have a pipe break (and we hope you don’t), knowing where your shut-off valve is located will help you act fast. Turn off the flow of water as soon as possible to minimize damage until the pipe can be repaired.
4. Going out of town?
Set the thermostat no lower than 55 degrees and ask a friend or neighbor to check on your house periodically.

For the past three years, Battle of the Badges has provided residents with a fun and engaging way to get into the holiday spirit while connecting with public safety personnel around the region.

Holiday Light Show downtown all month long
Want more places to see holiday lights in Renton? Before heading down to Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park for Clam Lights, stop downtown to catch the holiday light show.
In partnership with the city’s Community and Economic Development Department and the Port of Seattle, experience the holiday spirit through an installation of light displays that dance in tune to holiday music every night this month.
The light show is viewable at 510 S. 3rd St. (Big 5 Lot) next to Gateway Park. The show occurs nightly on the hour from 5 to 10 p.m. through December 31.
Don’t forget to check out the downtown tree light-up Piazza Park all month when the lights turn on at dusk.
