Solid Waste Utility
The City of Renton’s Solid Waste Utility provides a responsible and robust solid waste program that includes special waste prevention and recycling events, education and outreach; Clean Sweep Collection; citywide litter collection; and solid waste collection services.
Solid Waste Collection Services
The city partners with Republic Services to provide customers with enhanced, cart-based and container-based recycling, organics and garbage collection; account management; and billing services.
Garbage service is mandatory per city code. All properties are required to have adequate service levels to prevent overflow of materials. Republic Services offers comprehensive recycling and organics collection to help customers reduce the amount of garbage disposed at Cedar Hills Landfill annually. Rates include all taxes and fees except where noted.

Important Information

All residential and multifamily carts must be placed at the collection location by 7 a.m. on collection day. They must be removed from the curb and returned to storage on your property within 24 hours of collection.

Each household is provided one recycling cart and one organics cart. The garbage cart is based on subscription. All carts remain the property of Republic Services and the city.

Customers are charged by the subscribed service level even if fewer containers are serviced within the billing period.

Customers must separate garbage from recycling and organics. Contaminated containers will be collected and charged as garbage extras.

Keep items not intended for collection separate from your containers on collection day.

Customers are allowed one account change per calendar year without a fee. A $35 administrative fee applies to each additional change.

No credit will be given for a skip in scheduled service due to weather or road conditions. Refer to Republic Services Inclement Weather Policy at republicservicesrenton.com.

No collection on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas (December 25), and New Year’s Day (January 1). If scheduled collection falls on or after the above holidays, it will be one day late that week, including Saturday. Refer to the Republic Services Renton Collection Guideline & Calendar mailer.
