Councilmember Carol Ann Witschi to vacate seat on September 1, 2019

Cites family’s move to North Carolina as reason; council to discuss filling seat on August 5

Renton City Councilmember Carol Ann WitschiRENTON, WA -- City of Renton councilmember Carol Ann Witschi has announced she is vacating her council seat effective September 1, 2019. Ms. Witschi made the announcement in a letter read to the council at their regularly scheduled Monday, July 15 meeting. The letter cited her family’s upcoming move to North Carolina as the reason for her resignation.

“As you know, my decision to not run for re-election this year was based on the likelihood that my family and I would be relocating to North Carolina,” Ms. Witschi wrote to Council President Don Persson. “As such I will need to vacate (my seat) effective September 1, 2019.

“It has been a pleasure to serve with you on council for the past four years and I will carry your many tidbits of wisdom with me for years to come. Thank you for your patience and guidance as I evolved from a new candidate to an experienced councilmember. I have learned a lot from you, the mayor, the rest of the council and city staff.”

Ms. Witschi was elected to the council in 2015 and had previously announced she would not seek re-election because of the move. She serves as the council’s president pro-tem, is chair of the community services committee, vice-chair of the utilities committee and a member of the finance committee.

The council will determine the next steps in filling the vacancy at their Committee of the Whole meeting on August 5, at 5 p.m. Their decision will be posted on the city’s website.
