Spring cleaning opportunities in Renton

Spring is here; for many of us, that means spring cleaning.

Our Sustainability and Waste Management Division and Renton Police Department have several upcoming events to help Renton residents dispose of or recycle unwanted items.

April 15 Shred-a-thon & Prescription Drug Takeback, 9 a.m.-12 p.m., Renton Memorial Stadium (405 Logan Ave N, 98057). Shred those unwanted documents and turn in unused or expired prescription drugs during Renton PD’s annual drive-through event. Officers and staff will unload your vehicle and accept non-perishable food items for donation to local food banks. All items should be placed in your trunk, hatchback, or truck bed.

May 13 Metal and Styrofoam Recycle Event, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Renton Technical College North Parking Lot (NE 6th Place & Monroe Avenue NE, 98056). The first of three recycling events from our Sustainability and Waste Management Division.

Shift GreenMany of the city’s auto parts stores take back used motor oil and filters at no cost. The oil collected by these stores is recycled into re-refined oil or burned as bunker fuel, giving your used oil a second life.

Curbside Recycling - When preparing your curbside recyclables, please empty, clean, and dry them before placing them loosely in your cart. Do not place recyclables in garbage totes or plastic bags. Extra recyclables should be placed in containers next to your curbside cart. Our website lists recycling resources for those items that cannot go in your blue recycle cart.

You can find more recycling tips and locations on our website.
