Public Works Projects

Wells Avenue and Williams Avenue Conversion Project

The Wells-Williams Conversion Project improves connectivity and access in downtown Renton to make it a more vibrant and livable area by converting Wells Ave S and Williams Ave S to two-way traffic. Construction is expected to continue into fall 2021.

  • Monday, Oct. 18 to Friday, Oct. 22: Paving is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday on S. 3rd Street. S 3rd will be closed between Burnett Avenue South and Main Avenue South from approximately 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Paving is conditioned on the weather.

Downtown Utility Improvement Project 

The Downtown Utility Improvement Project requires several roadway closures and detours between now and project completion in 2022. For more information on current upcoming road closures and traffic impacts or to sign up for email or text alerts visit the project webpage.

Lake Washington Loop Trail Project

Logan Avenue South and Airport Way: Lane closures continue between now and project completion, approximately early November. Project webpage

Inclement Weather Response Reminder

The Public Works Department would like to remind residents to help us prevent local residential street flooding by monitoring catch basins near your home and keep them clear of leaves and other debris. Street sweepers are dispatched daily to clean up debris along major arterials.

Community & Economic Development Projects

Union Avenue NE
Monday, Oct. 18, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Intermittent lane closures on Union Avenue NE just north and south of NE 27th Place due to roadway paving. Approved traffic control plans have been issued for all work and will be followed. Questions may be directed to Patrick DeCaro, 425-207-6013.

116th Avenue SE
Monday, Oct. 18 through Friday, Oct. 22, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Intermittent lane closures on 116th Avenue SE at SE 160th Street due to utility construction. Approved traffic control plans have been issued for all work and will be followed. Questions may be directed to Tom Main, 206-999-1833.

Sunset Lane NE
On-going street closure through Oct. 4, 2023 (City of Renton Resolution No. 4446). Full street closure on Sunset Lane NE between NE 10th Street and Harrington Place NE in support the Solera Development Project (LUA20-000305). Approved traffic control plans were issued for all work and will be followed. Questions may be directed to Brad Stocco, 425-282-2373.

Ripley Lane N Trail
Closure just north of the VMAC and the trail head going north through summer 2021 in support the WSDOT I-405 Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes Project. Approved traffic control plans were issued for all work and will be followed. Questions may be directed to Justin Johnson, 425-902-7172, or Kip Braaten, 425-757-9809. 

I-405 Widening Project

Construction work for the Renton to Bellevue project will add new capacity to create a dual express toll lane system between SR 167 in Renton and Northeast Sixth Street in Bellevue. In general, the project will add one new lane in each direction, combining the existing HOV lane with this new lane to create the express toll lane system. The project will also build infrastructure to support bus rapid transit. The work will involve several overnight lane closures in the coming weeks.
