Review if your case involves any of the following:

Hit and run collisions

You may report a hit and run collision online ONLY if there were no injuries and no suspect information is available.  For example, your vehicle was parked, and an unknown driver/vehicle hit your car and did not leave any contact information; or a vehicle hit your car while you were driving and fled without exchange information.

If any of the following apply, report by calling 911 or the non-emergency line at 425-235-2121, option 0:

  • Anyone involved sustained any injuries.
  • There was an exchange of information with the other involved party.
  • The collision was vehicle versus pedestrian.
  • You were able to get the license plate number of the suspect vehicle.

Please note Washington State Patrol covers highways and interstates. Any collisions occurring on I-405 or Highway 167 mut be reported to WSP.

Contact Washington State Patrol Dispatch at 425-747-0521 or https://wsp.wa.gov/driver/collision-records

If you were involved in a non-injury collision not considered a hit and run and did not call for police response at the time of the collision, you may still submit a report through Washington State Patrol.

Attempted theft of motor vehicle

Vandalism is eligible for online reporting if your car was damaged during a car prowl. Damage occurred during an attempted vehicle theft is not available for online reporting. If your vehicle sustained damage on the steering column or ignition, this indicates the intention was to steal the vehicle. Attempted vehicle thefts must be reported to 911 or our non-emergency line at 425-235-2121, option 0.

Theft vs. burglary

Burglary is a crime that involves a suspect illegally entering a building or structure with the intent to commit another crime, usually theft, with or without force. Theft is the stealing of property. Theft is available for online reporting, burglary is not.

Is your crime a theft or burglary? Please consider the questions below.

  • Did the suspect(s) enter a private residence or garage uninvited?
  • Did the suspect(s) enter a private storage shed or unit (whether owned or rented)?
  • Did the suspect(s) enter a business outside of normal business hours?
  • Did the suspect(s) enter a private building or structure that the general public should not have access to?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, the incident would be considered a burglary and needs to be reported with an officer.  Please either call 911 or our non-emergency line at 425-235-2121, option 0.

If you answered NO to all of these questions, the incident would be considered theft and can be reported online, assuming it meets the other criteria listed on the website.

Identity theft
