The City of Renton is governed under the Mayor-Council form of city government.
Renton operates under the Strong Mayor model of Mayor-Council government. Under this model, there is a separation of powers between the executive and legislative branches, and checks and balances. This model most closely resembles state and federal government models. Separate legislative and executive branches provide the best opportunity for debate and consensus-building, along with encouraging informed and well-rounded debate.
