The Renton Police Youth Academy is a dynamic four-day program for middle school students interested in public safety careers. Hosted in partnership with the King County Sheriff’s Office, Newcastle Police Department, Washington State Patrol, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the academy offers a unique, behind-the-scenes look at first responder work.

Students participate in hands-on activities, interactive demonstrations, and team-based challenges that simulate real-world scenarios faced by law enforcement, fire, and EMS professionals. Working in teams, they learn directly from local, county, state, and federal experts.

Along the way, participants build confidence, strengthen teamwork and leadership skills, and form positive connections with those who serve their community, all in a fun, high-energy environment designed to inspire the next generation of public service leaders.

Program Update

The Renton Police Youth Academy will take a pause in 2026 due to staffing demands and operational commitments related to preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and other public safety priorities.

This program remains an important part of our community outreach efforts, and we are committed to continuing to provide this opportunity for local students. We look forward to bringing the Youth Academy back in 2027.

Please check back for updates and future application information as we begin planning the next academy.
