A red-light running violation occurs when a motorist enters an intersection after the traffic signal has phased to a steady red light. Motorists must stop prior to entering the intersection. Any motorist who has already crossed into the intersection when the green or yellow traffic signal has phased to a steady red has not completed a violation. When a motorist approaches an intersection and is attempting to make a right turn and the traffic signal is a steady red signal, they must come to a complete stop (cessation of tire rotation) in front of the stop line before the right turn is completed.
A fixed speed violation occurs when a motorist exceeds any posted speed limit in the area. Please see City of Renton Municipal Code 10-12-1.
