A brand new mural has made its way upstream to Houser Way North! The Cedar River Salmon Mural was revealed earlier this week as the latest piece of art in Renton. The new addition to the city was made possible by a collaborative community effort spearheaded by local artists and organizations.
The 50-foot-long and 11.5-foot-tall mural celebrates the enduring connection between the Cedar River, salmon, and the people of Renton. The mural features two salmon. One rendered in a contemporary naturalistic style and the other designed by Indigenous artist Tommy Segundo of CreNative Designz in the Coast Salish tradition.
The artwork honors both the ecological importance of salmon and the cultural heritage they represent. Located just steps from the Cedar River, the mural serves as a tribute to the river's life cycle and the generations of people who have relied on, celebrated, and stewarded this iconic species.
