Do you live in an apartment or condo? Want to help keep food out of our landfills?

Join King County's free food waste study that makes food scrap collection clean, easy, and odor-free.

The study will run from April 2026 through October 2026.

Here’s how it will work:

  1. You’ll receive a free Mill food scrap device recycler to use during the study
  2. Set up the Mill app.
  3. Add your food scraps!
  4. The device turns scraps into food grounds automatically.
  5. You’ll mail back Food Grounds when full (packaging and pick-ups are provided).
  6. Complete a survey.
  7. At the end of the study in October, you can either return the Mill device or purchase it at a deeply discounted rate.
