A festival street is a public space that can be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic and be used for festivals, markets, outdoor dining, and other community events.

City staff is exploring the idea of a Festival Street on Logan Ave between S. 2nd Street and S. 3rd Street to create more flexible public spaces in downtown Renton.

PROJECT BACKGROUND & WHAT’S NEXT

In 2018, the Civic Core Vision and Action Plan (CCVAP) identified this stretch of Logan Ave. S. within the Heart Block as a place for a festival street, aimed at encouraging community gathering and improving pedestrian safety.

Since then, we’ve built Legacy Square, redesigned Piazza Park, and are turning The Pavilion into Renton Market, giving more people a reason to visit downtown.

This summer, you may have noticed the colorful concrete barriers in front of Logan. These barriers temporarily closed Logan Street to vehicle traffic to create more space for pedestrians visiting World Cup watch parties and the Renton Farmers Market at Legacy Square and the revamped Piazza Park.

Logan Street will remain temporarily closed through February 2027 as staff continues work on establishing a formal Festival Street.

Over the next four to five months, we will gather community input, develop design concepts, and review alternatives.

After a design is chosen, we’ll create construction plans and look for grants and other funding to help pay for the project.
