CONSTRUCTION UPDATES: RapidRide I Line and Stride S1 - August 2026

Commuters and residents should be aware of travel impacts due to RapidRide I Line and Stride S1 construction.
Renton is a key regional transportation hub, and these projects are part of long‑term upgrades to improve transit service in our community.
KING COUNTY METRO – RAPIDRIDE I LINE CONSTRUCTION
King County Metro has begun construction to build 17 miles of the new RapidRide I Line service in Renton, Kent, and Auburn. In 2027, the I Line will provide connections between Renton Transit Center, Kent Transit Center and Auburn Station. Ongoing traffic impacts include:
Talbot Rd S & S 32nd St
- Work occurring on the west side of Talbot Rd S from August 11 to September 4

- Prepare for installation of shelter footing, curb, and sidewalk
- Prepare roadway base for paving
- Roadway paving
SE Carr Rd & 105th Pl SE
- Work occurring on the north and south sides of SE Carr Rd and east side of 105th Pl SE from August 12 to September 4

- Curb and ADA ramp installation (south)
- Sidewalk installation (south)
- Sawcut and remove roadway pavement (east)
- Repave roadway (east)
- Underground electrical work (north)
- Install shelter footing (north)
- Sidewalk installation (north)
Talbot Rd S & Valley Medical Center
- Work occurring on the west side of Talbot Rd S from August 11 to September 4

- Install retaining wall
- Install drainage
- Install underground electrical utilities and foundations
S Grady Way & Talbot Rd S
- Work occurring on the north side of S Grady Way from August 10 to September 4

- Install new watermain
- Tree removal (southeast corner of Talbot & Grady)

SOUND TRANSIT – STRIDE S1 I LINE CONSTRUCTION
At the same time, Sound Transit is making road improvements for the Stride S1 Line, which will connect communities along I-405 and SR 518 from Bellevue to Burien through Renton.
Like all Stride routes, buses on the S1 Line will run every 10 to 15 minutes, 17+ hours per day, seven days a week. The S1 Line will connect to Link light rail stations at the Bellevue Transit Center, above the Bellevue Downtown Station, and Tukwila International Blvd Station.
Construction will help ensure Stride S1 buses can move quickly on the route, helping Sound Transit deliver fast, frequent, and reliable rapid transit service along the route.
Upcoming traffic impacts include:
S Grady Way & Rainier Ave S
- Closure of westbound S Grady Way’s right turn lanes from August 24 to 26

- Concrete breaking for sewer-tie in work

Both services will eventually operate out of the future Renton Transit Center at the corner of South Grady Way and Rainier Avenue South.
