YOU’RE INVITED: City of Renton’s 125th Birthday Celebration

Renton’s 125th birthday is more than a milestone; it’s a celebration of a community shaped by generations of Renton residents whose stories built this city.  

Founded on September 6, 1901, Renton grew from Duwamish homelands at the meeting of the Black and Cedar rivers into a bustling hub for coal miners, loggers, and later workers at PACCAR and Boeing.  

BIRTHDAY IN THE PARK 

Join the City of Renton and the Renton Historical Society for Birthday in the Park, a community celebration at Liberty Park, Renton’s first public park! 

Step back in time with a walk through Renton’s history, enjoy games, live music, and activities for all ages, gather with friends and neighbors, and, of course, celebrate with birthday cake!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT RENTON? 

As we mark 125 years, we want to honor the people who have shaped the Renton that we know and love today! Here is how we are celebrating: 

• Highlighting our history: Throughout the year of our birthday, follow the city’s social media channels for historical memories throughout the years. 
• Tell us what YOU love about Renton: Stop by our video booth at events throughout the summer and tell us what you love about Renton or what it means to you. Your video might be used on social media and put into a time capsule for a future Renton to enjoy! You’ll also walk away with an official 125th anniversary button! 

HOW TO RECORD A 125TH VIDEO 

The video booth can be found at several events including the Renton Farmers Market, 125th Birthday in the Park, and senior luncheons. At the booth, follow these steps to record your video: 

1. Have a seat and get comfortable! 
2. Grab a prop, press start, wait for the countdown to complete. 
3. Answer one or both questions: 
   1. What do you love about Renton? 
   2. What does Renton mean to you? 
4. Watch your submission. You can retake or edit it if you want. 
5. Fill out the video release form and submit! 
6. Send your video to someone if you want!
