Advanced Community Police Academy

The Advanced Community Police Academy is designed for graduates (18+) of any Renton Police Department community academy who want to expand on what they learned in their original program. This “2.0” experience takes a deeper dive into public safety topics while providing additional opportunities to engage with officers, partner agencies, and public safety professionals.

Participants gain a greater understanding of how law enforcement and partner agencies work together to address complex public safety issues. The program provides opportunities for discussion and questions, allowing participants to connect directly with professionals working in public safety.

Program highlights

Participants will have opportunities to:

  • Learn about specialized public safety units and partner agencies
  • Explore real-world investigations and case studies
  • Participate in demonstrations and interactive learning experiences
  • Engage in discussions with law enforcement and public safety professionals
  • Gain insight into how agencies work together to respond to emergencies and protect the community

Eligibility requirements

  • Minimum Age: 18 years old
  • Prerequisite: Applicants must have completed a Renton Police Department community academy program (traditional 8-week academy, one-day academy, Senior Public Safety Mini-Series, or similar program).
  • Background Check: All applicants must pass a background check. Individuals with a felony conviction or a recent misdemeanor conviction may not qualify.

Please note: Spots are limited. Verification that you have completed one of our previous academy programs is required as part of the application process.

  • April 28 – Crime Stoppers of Puget Sound: Learn how anonymous tips help solve crimes and support law enforcement investigations
  • May 5 – Federal Reserve Bank Police: Discover how Federal Reserve Bank Police protect the nation’s financial system and support operations in Renton.
  • June 2 – Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS): Explore the high-tech tools investigators use to analyze fingerprints and assist in criminal investigations.
  • September 14 – Renton Police Department + Renton Regional Fire Authority Partnership: Learn how police and fire agencies work together to respond to emergencies and serve the community.
