The Renton Police Youth Academy will pause in 2026 due to staffing and operational demands tied to preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and other public safety priorities. This program remains a valued part of our community outreach, and we look forward to welcoming students back in 2027. Please check back for updates and future application details.
The Renton Police Youth Academy is a dynamic four-day program for middle school students interested in public safety careers. Hosted in partnership with the King County Sheriff’s Office, Newcastle Police Department, Washington State Patrol, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the academy offers a unique, behind-the-scenes look at first responder work.
Students participate in hands-on activities, interactive demonstrations, and team-based challenges that simulate real-world scenarios faced by law enforcement, fire, and EMS professionals. Working in teams, they learn directly from local, county, state, and federal experts.
Along the way, participants build confidence, strengthen teamwork and leadership skills, and form positive connections with those who serve their community, all in a fun, high-energy environment designed to inspire the next generation of public service leaders.
A graduation ceremony will take place on the final day of the academy. Immediate family members are encouraged to attend.
