Clean and safe drinking water is something we use every day, but how do we know it's safe?
Every year, our Public Works Department publishes a Water Quality Report to share where our water comes from, how it’s treated, and what new testing shows about our water supply’s safety.
The report, required by the Federal Safe Drinking Water Act, gives us a closer look at the work that goes into protecting our water.

Our annual Water Quality Report provides information about the quality of Renton’s drinking water from the previous year.
The report includes details about:
- Where our water comes from (four local wells)
- How water is treated before reaching your home or business (safe processes)
- The results of water quality testing (it’s good!)
- Steps we’re taking to protect our water system (year-round protection)
- Various ways to save money (save water!)
- Fun photos and facts about water!
REPORT SUMMARY & WHY WE TEST
Renton regularly tests water samples and follows strict requirements set by the Washington State Department of Health and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Good news! Renton’s drinking water continues to meet all state and federal safety standards.
Water is tested for many different substances, including minerals, bacteria, and other potential contaminants. Testing helps ensure the water delivered to the community remains safe and high quality.
While some substances may be detected in very small amounts, their presence does not mean the water is unsafe. Regulations set limits to protect public health, and Renton’s water remains within those limits.
