Celebrating Disability Pride Month

July is Disability Pride Month, a time dedicated to honoring the history, achievements, experiences, and struggles of all those within the disability community.  Disability Pride Month marks the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) landmark legislation signed on July 26, 1990, which prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities in all areas of public life. 

During Monday's city council meeting, Mayor Armondo Pavone designated July as Disability Pride Month in Renton. Kari Grimit, Senior Renton Early Support Manager for Kindering, and Bill Carson, parent of a Kindering student, accepted the proclamation 

Carson thanked and recognized the support system within the disability community – the families, educators, providers and advocates, and notably Kindering. Carson, parent to two Kindering students, reflected on the programs his children take part in, “I have seen firsthand the different early support makes. It doesn’t just help children, it gives the families the tools, confidence, and hope they need to support the children on the road to success”.  

Kindering’s mission is to embrace children of diverse abilities by providing the finest education and therapies and nurture hope, courage, and the skills to succeed. Kindering has a full-service campus in Renton, which serves children with developmental delays and disabilities and their families in our community.
