RENTON IS READY TO PLAY: New downtown spaces now open
Published on June 10, 2026
We’re just getting started! On Saturday, June 6, Renton celebrated the grand opening of Legacy Square, Piazza Park, and the soon-to-be Renton Market. This milestone marks the beginning of many more community gatherings in downtown Renton.
These projects create a space for community gathering and energize the downtown core with continued movement and activities as part of the Downtown Civic Core Action Plan. Learn more about the purpose and history behind these projects on our project page at rentonwa.gov/downtownupgrades.
EVENT RECAP
Saturday afternoon, our local Hazen Highlander Band opened the event with a performance on the futsal court. Seattle Sounders FC Ambassador, Brad Evans welcomed the crowd.
Business leaders, elected officials, and project partners gave brief remarks before the ribbon-cutting.
Sound Wave, the official band of Seattle Sounders FC, performed next with their energy matched by downtown staple, Renton Civic Theatre’s, Production of Footloose.
Sammy the Sounder met attendees and posed for photos. Pacific Northwest Soccer Club demonstrated soccer and futsal skills and invited the community to participate.
Te Fare O Tamatoa showcased Tahitian culture through dance and music.
Joyas Mestizas Dance Co, showcased traditional costumes and dances.
With a final performance was by Laveimanino, a Polynesian dance group.
Due to the shift in afternoon weather, our programming ended at 6 p.m. and our last performer, Yambambo, did not go on. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding with the last-minute change.
Thank you to all performers, partners, and attendees for being part of the celebration. We hope you’ll join us again!
