Congratulations are in store for our second cohort of Renton Civic Academy. Over eight weeks, 32 Renton residents spent more than 17 hours engaging with city departments and staff at various City of Renton locations.

Through interactive workshops, hands-on activities, and conversations with city leadership, participants built a stronger understanding of city services and how Renton operates.

Altogether, the cohort rated the program 4.6 of 5.

Thanks to all the graduates for their investment in civic engagement and for helping build a more connected Renton.

Conversation with Mayor Pavone and Civic Academy reception

Before the March 23 city council meeting, Civic Academy graduates and their families gathered for a reception and to meet Mayor Armondo Pavone. Graduates spoke with the Mayor, asked questions, and received their certificates in recognition of completing the program.

During the reception, Mayor Pavone shared, “When we started this program two years ago, it was a good opportunity to build these relationships with residents who care deeply, and bring them closer into understanding what we do, and the structures we have to operate within.”

A graduate reflected on the program, “It really helped me understand how a city works and what sorts of resources it provides itsresidents[…] I highly recommend this program for other residents aiming to become more involved.”

Special recognition during Renton City Council meeting

During Monday's city council meeting, Executive Services Department Administrator Kristi Rowland recognized the Civic Academy cohort with a Special Presentation. Rowland highlighted several purposes of Civic Academy: to promote transparency, help residents understand how the city balances community needs with operational constraints, and provide opportunities to engage directly with city subject matter experts.

The cohort was acknowledged for completing the program and encouraged to continue serving as ambassadors for their community, helping others better understand and navigate city services.
