Renton’s Manufacturing sector accounts for approximately 14,700 jobs, representing 21.2 percent of total jobs in Renton. Manufacturing has played a critical role in Renton’s history and continues to be a cornerstone of the local economy. Renton is the proud home to a diverse manufacturing community.

During the month of October, the city recognizes the vital contribution of manufacturers and their employees, who provide highly skilled and family-wage career opportunities, strengthen local and regional supply chains, foster innovation, and contribute to the economic vitality of our community.

During Monday's city council meeting, Mayor Armondo Pavone designated October as National Manufacturing Month in Renton. On behalf of the Kent Valley Air and Space Roundtable, Renton Technical College President Dr. Yoshiko Harden accepted the proclamation.

Dr. Harden shared how the Kent Valley Air and Space Roundtable is a testament to what occurs when education, K12, local government and industry come together for regional impact and elevate one of the great manufacturing hubs across the state and across the coast.

The Roundtable’s goals are to expand career pathways in aerospace fields, strengthen employer-driven workforce initiatives, and improve student awareness of career opportunities. The regional collaboration brings South King County industry leaders, educators, and workforce partners together to strengthen collaboration and develop the next generation of manufacturing talent.

An Evening of Recognition and Celebration

Monday evening leaders from Renton’s manufacturing companies, workforce development and apprenticeship organizations, local producers, and community partners gathered for an evening of recognition.

Mayor Pavone opened the evening with brief remarks. "Behind every successful manufacturing business are the skilled workers, entrepreneurs, educators, and industry partners.”

SEKISUI Aerospace Senior Human Resources Lead Shirley Falgoine shared with guests the company’s deep-rooted history in Renton and continued growth at the headquarters site in Renton. “This manufacturing space in Renton is thriving and inspiring and we are excited to be a part of this community.”

Advanced Manufacturing Apprenticeships Director of Business Engagement Amy Suter reflected on the work along the industry partners, “What makes our region truly this special is the strength of its partnerships, industry, education, workforce organization, and local government all working together towards a common goal, building a strong and sustainable manufacturing workforce.”

Renton is home to a diverse manufacturing community, from major employers such as Boeing and PACCAR to companies such as Renton Coil Spring, SEKISUI Aerospace, Aero-Plastics, and Out of the Box Manufacturing. Manufacturing also includes smaller local producers, such as Drum Roll Wine, Boon Boona Coffee and Four Generals Brewing. Together, these businesses demonstrate the diversity, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit of Renton's manufacturing community.
