In Cased You Missed It Renton Council and Committee of the Whole recap

In case you missed Monday’s Committee of the Whole (COW) or Council meeting, we’ve got you covered! Here’s a quick recap of the conversations shaping our community.

Committee of the Whole Recap

Guests from Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) and Sound Transit presented to the council on the status of current projects happening in Renton.

WSDOT provided an update on the I-405/SR 167 Corridor Program. This corridor is an essential access point for Renton, and it is important to stay aware of progress on this project along with upcoming traffic impacts and closures.

Other projects committed to Renton include:

  •  I-405/Renton to Bellevue - Corridor Widening
  • SR 167 Corridor Improvements Project
  • Renton Rainier BRT Access Study

Sound Transit focused on the Stride Bus Rapid Transit Program and on current projects including the Renton Transit Center. Council commentary focused on their frustration with delays to Renton projects since 2021, a lack of Light Rail service, and additional proposed delays in the Sound Transit Enterprise Initiative.

Council Meeting Recap

The council meeting kicked off with two proclamations recognizing Renton Safe Boating and Paddling Week and Jewish American Heritage Month.

During the audience comment portion of the meeting, Council heard comments on the use of ALPR cameras, expressing thanks for recognizing Jewish Heritage Month, and a representative from YouthLink spoke about the support their program provides to Renton’s youth.

The Council adopted Resolution No. 4582. With Council’s approval, a full temporary street closure of Logan Ave South between Transit Access Road and South Third Street will begin on May 26 through October 2, 2026.

This closure will allow safe and easy movement between Legacy Square, Renton Market, and Piazza Park throughout the many summer events and activities happening in these areas.

Due to the observance of Memorial Day, there will be no City Council meeting on Monday, May 25.
