The City of Renton's Transportation Systems division plans, designs, builds, operates, and maintains the systems that help people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout Renton. This includes the city's Six-Year Transportation Improvement Program, supporting traffic calming safety efforts, designing and constructing roads, bridges, and bike lanes, and maintaining streetlights, traffic signals, and roadway safety devices.
The Transportation Systems division is organized into four groups, each focused on a key part of the city's transportation network. Use the tabs below for a brief overview of each group.
The Planning, programming, and traffic operations group focuses on identifying needs, setting priorities, and coordinating resources to deliver projects that support a safe, efficient, and connected transportation system.
Design and construction translate transportation plans into built projects by guiding design, overseeing construction, and ensuring quality, safety, and long-term performance.
The operations team ensures the safe and efficient movement of people and vehicles throughout the city. They manage and maintain traffic signals, crosswalks, and street lighting, conduct safety studies and evaluations, and implement strategies to keep transportation running smoothly for all users.
The maintenance team keeps the city's transportation infrastructure functioning safely and reliably. They repair and maintain streetlights, traffic signals, radar and speed signs, respond to emergency issues affecting traffic devices, and ensure all transportation systems operate efficiently for the public.
