The grand marshal for Saturday’s parade is Heather Duong. Heather recently graduated from Lindbergh High School and will attend the University of Washington, Seattle, in the fall, entering the Foster School of Business.  

Heather was selected as the 2025 Renton River Days Parade Grand Marshal to recognize her for being one of six recipients of the 2025 Renton Rotary Scholarship.   

Two students from each Renton School District high school are selected each year to receive the scholarship. Recipients are selected based on student performance and community involvement through their GPA, extracurricular activities, and volunteering, along with submitting a personal essay.   

Heather has been a Renton resident for over a decade and stayed active during the school year through her involvement in DECA, swim team, being a teacher’s assistant at the Đắc Lộ Vietnamese Language School, and her participation in the Lindbergh High School Vietnamese fan dance team.   

“Makes me feel really excited and honored that a high school student or just a young person in general can represent Renton as the grand marshal,” said Heather.

 Get ready for a weekend of community and fun! Here are just SOME of the things you can expect and things to know before you go:  

COULON PARKING (FRIDAY Only) 

  • Boat Launch lot (non-towing vehicles only) open 5-10 p.m.
  • Paid offsite parking at Southport Garage & The Landing (FREE top level)
  • The new Park Avenue North Extension is another way to access Coulon Park 

BOAT LAUNCH CLOSURE 

  • Coulon Boat Launch will be CLOSED for launching/take-out Friday, July 25 from 3–11 p.m. 

WEEKEND PARKING (SATURDAY & SUNDAY) 

  • City Center Parking Garage, 655 S. Second St. (up to 10 hours FREE parking)
  • Limited ADA parking available at Liberty Park
  • Renton Community Center
  • Various public lots throughout downtown including at 200 Mill Ave. S. 

HENRY MOSES AQUATIC CENTER 

  • All sessions closed July 25–27
  • Pre-register for Teen Night (Friday, July 25, 6:30–9:30 p.m.) 

EVENT ROAD CLOSURES 

  • Houser Way North, south of Liberty Park, will be closed Friday, July 25 at 5 a.m. through Monday, July 28 at 1 p.m. for the festival. Detours will be marked.
  • Various roads downtown, north of South Fourth Street, south of South Second Street, east of Rainier Avenue South, and west Mill Avenue South will be closed Saturday, July 26, from 6:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the parade.

Disability Pride Month

Since 2021, Renton Parks & Recreation has been partnering with King County Library System to bring StoryWalks to our parks.  

The newest StoryWalk has landed at Sunset Neighborhood Park, 2680 Sunset Ln. NE and is available until Friday, August 8. Come explore the enchanting pages of “Noah and His Red Cat” by Silvina Rocha - Illustrated by Lucía M. Prieto. The story is available in both English and Spanish. 

How does it work? 

  • Start your journey at the first story sign/page across the street from the Highlands Library.   
  • Experience the whole story by following the 17 signs/pages around the park. 

This StoryWalk will move to Liberty Park, 1101 Bronson Way N., from August 11 to September 5 and will begin next to the park playground.

 

Renton Municipal Court no longer processing passports

Due to capacity limitations, Renton Municipal Court (RMC) will no longer process new passport applications or renewals. Appointments already scheduled through August will still take place, but passport services will end after August.
