Honoring Domestic Violence Victims, Survivors, and Service Agencies
Published on October 12, 2026
Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence. Each October, organizations and individuals unite for a national effort to highlight the needs and support of survivors. The 2026 theme, “With Survivors, Always,” invites the public to move from awareness to action in supporting survivors’ safety, support, and solidarity.
During last Monday's city council meeting, Mayor Armondo Pavone designated October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Renton. Renton Police Domestic Violence Victim Advocate Tina Harris accepted the proclamation.
Harris reflected on community members who lost their lives to domestic violence and shared about the support systems available for survivors of domestic violence.
Harris was joined by several of the city’s partner agencies and The More We Love Executive Director Kristine Moreland. Moreland stated, “These are our neighbors, our children, no one should have to become homeless just to become safe.” The More We Love, the city’s 2026 highlighted partner agency, provides pathways to those experiencing homelessness, addiction, domestic violence, and trafficking.
Thank you to all the agencies who provide support and critical resources to those experiencing with domestic violence.
PURPLE LIGHTS NIGHTS AWARENESS WALK THROUGH DOWNTOWN RENTON
Monday evening before the city council meeting Chief Jon Schuldt, domestic violence agencies, businesses, and community members gathered at Legacy Square for the Purple Lights Night Awareness Night. The Seahawks Blue Thunder drumline guided the walk through downtown Renton, ending at Renton City Hall. The walk was supported by the Seattle Seahawks, DAWN: Domestic Abuse Women’s Network, Renton Downtown Partnership, Renton Chamber of commerce, Renton police, and community volunteers.
On October 15th , in recognition of “Purple Thursday” all are invited to wear purple to show support of community members who have experienced or currently experiencing domestic violence.
