In Cased You Missed It Renton Council and Committee of the Whole recap

Welcome to the “In Case You Missed It” series, recapping the City of Renton’s Council Meeting and Committee of the Whole meetings.

Looking for a quick, easy rundown of what happened during Monday night’s Committee of the Whole (COW), and Council on April 6? We’ve got you covered.

The Committee of the Whole highlighted the city’s ongoing commitment to safer streets through an in-depth presentation by Public Works on the Traffic Calming Program, which continues to deliver improvements including driver feedback signs, pavement markings, and speed cushions. Several projects have already been completed, with more scheduled for 2026.

Councilmembers also revisited community questions about FLOCK camera use, confirming that ALPR activity remains paused until city policies fully align with new state requirements. Conversations centered around Renton’s focus on transparency, safety, and resident engagement.

During the 7 p.m. Council meeting, the Renton Police Department recognized six officers and two K-9's for a job well-done. The city celebrated Volunteer Month and Sikh Heritage Month/Vaisakhi Day with proclamations and completed several actions that moved key legislation forward. Public comments were heard regarding FLOCK and RPD personnel.

Council approved agreements supporting infrastructure upgrades, solid waste rate updates, and transportation improvements. A new public hearing was scheduled for May 4 regarding a Renton School District street vacation petition, and the council adopted an ordinance granting Ripple Fiber the right to install new communications facilities citywide.

Looking ahead, the April 13 meetings will cover topics ranging from trail updates to cybersecurity grants, parks planning, and public safety staffing.
