Every day, nearly 130 people in the United States are killed by gun violence and more than 200 are shot and wounded. Washington has 950 gun deaths every year, with a rate of 11.7 deaths per 100,000 people, we are the state with the 39th highest rate of gun deaths in the United States. June is National Gun Violence Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raise awareness about gun violence in the US, honor victims and survivors, and advocate for stronger gun safety measures.

During Monday's city council meeting, Mayor Armondo Pavone designated June, as National Gun Violence Awareness Month in Renton. Member of the Local Chapter of Moms Demand Action, Laura Meyer accepted the proclamation.

“From parents to community partners, to survivors of gun violence, to responsible gun owners who securely store their guns, it takes all of us to keep our community safe” Meyer’s affirmed.

Moms Demand Action is a national organization with chapters in every state fighting for public safety measures that can protect people from gun violence. Moms Demand Action is comprised of parents, students, families, residents, and survivors working together.
