Since 2020 paddling boat activities have gained popularity, now paddling facilities contribute to more than 25% of all boating deaths nationwide. A significant number of boaters who lose their lives by drowning each year would be alive today had they worn their life jackets. Safe Boating and Paddling Week is committed to educating the public on safe boating practices and the importance of wearing a life jacket.
During Monday's city council meeting, Mayor Armondo Pavone designated May 16 – May 22, as Safe Boating and Paddling Week in Renton. Accepting the proclamation was Flotilla Commander, Mathew Goad and members of the local U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Renton Flotilla.
Flotilla Commander Matthew Goad shared the mission of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Members is to provide education and training, so that all residents in Renton can have a fun and safe recreational time on the water.
The uniformed volunteers of the United States Coast Guard teach safety courses, conduct vessel safety checks, and promote safe boating practices. Thank you for keeping us safe in and around the water!
